Spring is Springing but not yet Sprung!
March 10th, 2008Well this weekend has been a great climate rollacoaster. I just love days like these. From sleet and snow to a blamy 65degrees and Phillips creek is raging. The plants are starting to pop and we are thankful the cold burst didn’t kill the buds. This morning we are going to attempt to plant our early spring veggies: sugar snap peas, broccolli, cauliflower, lettuce spinach and nasturtiums(great salad flowers). This is the first year we get to use our new garden and we’re looking forward to seeing what Mother Nature gives us back. We seem to think Hawkesdene is one of her favorite children. The blueberries are also full of buds and the honey bees are standing in line for lunch. We’re keeping our fingers crossed we dont get another freeze. We’re also happy to report that our hens are producing a nice selection of eggs. They have worked very hard over the past few weeks and we plan to reward them with a larger pen and hen house, thanks to Eric. Keep up the good work girls! Also Im happy to say that one of our little goat, Sooner is back on his feet and eating. He had a little run with the goat flu last week. We thought he was acting a little bit like a drunken goat but there was no cheese (sorry Sooner I couldn’t resist). Did we mention that the “Knock Out” roses are starting to bud? We planted about 50 “Knock Out” rose bushes this fall and they are looking like we will experience amazing color within a few weeks. We also have a huge box of various flower seeds; poppys, cosmos, zinnias and wildflowers just waiting to go into cut flower gardens. Should start seeing great color in May. Also happy to report that our cottages have been beautifully redocorated and ready for guests. I think you will all enjoy the new appointments. We even added tin roofs for that nice rainy night. Send us great energy for a wonderful Spring and please take a little time out and come and enjoy our little slice of Heaven! PHIL
PS: Happy Birthday to Katie, she will be 3 on 3/18! Keep smiling!
